On Tuesday a group of us, with our friends and families, attended a Presentation Service in the Chapter House at Worcester Cathedral. The service celebrated the completion of the Bishop’s Certificate course and was led by Bishop John and Canon Robert Jones. There were groups from across the diocese there in addition to us and we were able to exchange our experiences of the course with many of them. The service itself was beautiful and the Chapter House provided a wonderful atmosphere and acoustics for both singing and quiet worship.
The Bishop’s Certificate provided opportunities for a more in-depth study of our Christian Faith and the Bible and was led by some very inspired and inspiring teachers. We particularly remember the teachings of the late Guy Smith – his wide knowledge provided a rounded insight into the Psalms.
There were two groups from Teme Valley North and we met together over 18 months. We studied the Old Testament, the Gospels, our membership of the Church and how we are called to live as Christians.
The following is the list of those from Teme Valley North Parish who received their Bishop’s Certificate:
- Lesley Dean
- Evelyn Cambray
- Liz Whitehead
- Vickie Melling
- Marjorie Workman
- Pauline Briggs
- Sally Jones
- Peter Collings
- Pearl Davies
The Diocese has issued a press release about the Presentation which you can find here. It includes a quote from Marjorie.
The Diocese has also published some photos from the Presentation on their Facebook page here.
Louise congratulated the recipients and commented:
The groups from Stourport deanery accomplished an in depth study course over a period of 18 months. The aim was also to journey together in faith, questioning old certainties and exploring new possibilities and perspectives. The course also included a visit to the Jewish liberal synagogue in Birmingham, and interfaith dialogue is an avenue that many of the participants want to pursue further. It has been a privilege to be one of the tutors on this course; indeed I have discovered much in the Bible and through conversation with participants that has shed new light on Christianity for me.
