April’s Mid-week Break

At our Mid-week Break in April we decided to follow an Easter/Spring theme and small Easter eggs, daffodils and biscuits were placed on each table. A large table was home to suitably decorated small cakes with Easter cards and Easter/Spring serviettes.

In the middle of our refreshment time Kate read from Isaiah 43:18-19 – The Lord says, “Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago. Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already – you can see it now!” and spoke of the grey, cold days of the past weeks and the hope of Spring warmth, flowers and shrubs and trees coming to life.

She also reminded the gathering that the celebration of Easter was all about the new life Jesus offers following His death and resurrection. She and Mike then read various poems and excerpts from books which spoke of Spring flowers, lambs and the Christian message of Easter. One of the poems was from Gervase Phinn’s The Other Side of the Dale written by a child for a poetry competition in the area where he served as a County Schools Inspector. It reads:-

On their fresh, green grassy banks
The little lambs are at their pranks,
Here the little lambkins bleat,
See them jump on woolly feet.
Oh what joy those lambkins bring
To the world when it is Spring.
