Welcome to Advent

Welcome to the Parish of Teme Valley North, set in the beautiful Teme Valley. If you are new here, it’s great to see you! Please follow this link to find out more about us.

Advent is the season that begins the Church year and leads to Christmas Day. It consists of four Sundays starting with the Sunday closest to November 30th. The word advent is derived from the Latin adventus, which means “coming” or “arrival”. For Christians, Advent is the time when the church patiently prepares for the coming of the King of Kings, Jesus Christ.

Even though Advent occurs in the month of December and is usually considered to be a prelude only to Christmas, it is not solely about waiting for the birth of Christ. It is also about inviting the light of Christ to shine into all aspects of our life. The blessing for this season is particularly beautiful and sums up this second coming of Christ.

May Christ the Son of Righteousness shine upon you, scatter any darkness from before your path, and make you ready to meet him when he comes in glory.

Come and join us in celebration of Advent and Christmas at one of our services.
