Welcome to Lent

Please note that the Stourport service tonight (Saturday) starts at 7 pm and not 7.30 pm as previously advertised.
Reflections through Lent, Eastertide  —  by Louise Grace

Eastertide glories in new life, in hopes and promises fulfilled, in seeing everything as if for the first time. I love this poem by Thomas Traherne, The Salutation, to read it as Christ speaking as he steps out of the tomb and into the garden, bathed in the morning light.         Read more…

Pied Beautyby Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-89)

daffodilsGlory be to God for dappled things —
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles in all stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches‛ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced — fold, fallow, and plough;
And all trades, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

This poem of glory seems to me to sum up the exuberance of Eastertide; the joy that sings from the landscape around us. This is a season for unfettered rejoicing.
